Ralph Stanley, perhaps the most enduring icon in traditional mountain music, has announced that he is embarking on his final act as a touring artist. Now 86 and in his 67th year as a professional musician , Stanley plans to work through December 2014.
This final run is billed as the Man Of Constant Sorrow Tour: The Dr.’s Farewell, and will include roughly 80 dates with his Clinch Mountain Boys starting in October 2013.
Upon hanging up his traveling shoes, it is expected that Ralph’s grandson Nathan Stanley will keep the band on the road. Stanley’s son, Ralph II, will also be performing his own version of traditional bluegrass with his own band.
