The Charlotte Bluegrass Festival is celebrating its 54th year. Things kicked off Wednesday evening with a performance by the Charlotte Bluegrass Band. The performance was in downtown Charlotte at the Windwalker Underground Gallery. In Michigan we pronounce it Char-lot! (like car lot). The Windwalker hosts open mic nights on Friday evenings.

Festival publicist and festival MC, Terri Grannis, introduced the band, which consisted of promoter Wes Pettinger on banjo, Crystal Hoffman on bass, Gavin Conley on mandolin, with John Coffey and Ron McKeever on guitars. Terri asked if the band had a name while introducing them and Wes coined the name. Thus, the Charlotte Bluegrass Band was born. Wes mentioned that a young fella named Billy Strings will be hanging around this weekend.

The stage show starts on Thursday, featuring Harbourtown, Full Cord, the David Mayfield Parade, and Dan Tyminski.

Friday brings Del McCoury along with the Travelin’ McCourys.

Saturday brings the legendary Larry Sparks to the stage.

Join us at the Eaton County Fairgrounds in Charlotte, Michigan for a big weekend of bluegrass music!
