Boston’s Stash Wyslouch has announced plans to record his first solo album of original material, which he says will combine his twin passions for bluegrass and heavy metal music.
Stash has been prominent in the bluegrass world this past few years as guitarist and vocalist with The Deadly Gentlemen, who have a well-earned reputation as bluegrass rebels. Like many young string bands, they adhere strictly to the form and instrumentation of Bill Monroe’s ensemble, but use it to play whatever sort of music strikes their fancy.
It has worked well for these Gentlemen in finding a ready audience, and a contract with Rounder Records.
Wyslouch got his musical start in the world of heavy metal, but started to warm to the sound of acoustic music, bluegrass, and harmony singing in 2005. He enrolled in Boston’s Berklee College of Music two years later, and has since performed with a string of experimental and alternative string band outfits.
Now that he is working with an established band, Stash feels that it’s time for him to record a project under his own name, and has set up a Kickstarter page to help fund the album as he explains in this video (with some audio samples).
