Time to submit IBMA Special Awards recommendations

IBMAThe International Bluegrass Music Association is now accepting recommendations for their 2016 Special Awards, to be presented during their upcoming World of Bluegrass convention in September. These are designated as “special” as they are not selected by a member ballot, but chosen by a committee set up for that purpose.

A nominating committee considers potential candidates from member and fan recommendations, and from their own personal knowledge, and delivers a list of nominees. Then a Panel of Electors chooses a winner from among this list of nominees in each category.

Included in the Special Awards are:

  • Bluegrass Print/Media Person of the Year
  • Bluegrass Broadcaster of the Year
  • Bluegrass Event of the Year
  • Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year
  • Graphic Design and Liner Notes

Nominees will be announced along with the rest of the 2016 International Bluegrass Music Awards nominees in August.

A submission form is available on the IBMA web site for self-recommendation. It is designed for an individual to put themselves forward for consideration in one of the special categories.

Should you wish to suggest something you think of worthy of the award, you are invited to contact Shannon Turner at IBMA by email, and she will reach out to the individual and suggest that they submit themselves.

The organization realizes that they aren’t likely to think of every worthy candidate and asks both the IBMA membership and the wider community of bluegrass lovers to help them find their nominees.
