Introducing The Molly Rose Band

Molly Rose Band - photo by Amy Ellis PhotographyWhen Lynwood Lunsford announced that he was leaving southwest Virginia’s popular Big Country Bluegrass back in November, everyone knew that we would be seeing him again soon with another group.

And now we know. He has resurfaced with a newly-formed outfit, The Molly Rose Band. Lunsford is on banjo with Mark Hudson on guitar, David Lewis on mandolin, and Gary Baird on bass. Together they have prepared a show that looks back to what they like to call “the Golden Age” of bluegrass music.

This includes classic songs from The Louvin Brothers, Flatt & Scruggs, Lynwood’s previous employers, Lost and Found, and several others.

Lynwood tells us that the guys started getting together for Sunday afternoon sessions in August of last year, which quickly led to a regular gig in Roxboro, NC. Now they are booking widely for shows this year and beyond.

Here’s a cell phone video from a recent performance.
