Boston-based alt-grassers, Della Mae, have announced Shelby Means as the new bass player with the band.
Shelby played with a number of bluegrass groups in her native Wyoming, before moving to Nashville recently where she had been performing with The David Mayfield Parade. Readers may recall Mayfield’s time as guitarist with Cadillac Sky before that group disbanded last year.
Della Mae fiddler Kimber Ludiker tells us that Means is a perfect match for these neo-grassy gals…
“We are so happy to introduce Shelby as a full-fledged member of Della Mae. We’ve spent the last few weeks with her writing and arranging songs for our upcoming album. Not only has she proven herself invaluable to Della Mae’s creative process, she’s also an incredibly sweet person and a great musician. It couldn’t have worked out better.

…and it seems the feeling is mutual coming from Shelby.

Della Mae is getting ready to track the aforementioned record, in Nashville at the storied Cash Cabin Studio, once owned and utilized by Johnny Cash and June Carter. Erick Jaskowiak has been tapped to engineer, with Bryan Sutton producing.
We expect to get more details through the summer as recording proceeds.
Look for Della Mae at major festival and club dates across the US throughout the 2012 season.
