New Larry Stephenson CD in May

What Really Matters - Larry StephensonCompass Records has announced May 29 as the release date for What Really Matters, a new CD from Larry Stephenson, his first for the Nashville-based label.

There are no audio samples available yet for public consumption, but the tracks I’ve heard place Stephenson right where he’s always been: smack dab in the middle of hard-core traditional bluegrass with a driving band.

Larry shared a few words about what we can expect from What Really Matters…

“I think we have some of the strongest material I’ve ever recorded. The title track is a new Harley Allen and John Wiggins song that fits my life to a tee. There are two Gospel songs, tunes from Ronnie Reno, Merle Haggard, Jimmy Martin, Randall Hylton, Ed Snodderly, James O’Gynn and Dickey Lee.

My band, Kenny Ingram (banjo), Kevin Richardson (guitar) and Danny Stewart (bass) played and sang great, and working with Ben Surratt as engineer and co-producer is the best!

Sam Bush came in and sang and played fiddle on the old tune Philadelphia Lawyer and Aubrey Haynie played some great fiddle on seven cuts.

I feel like I’m starting a new chapter in my life with Compass Records and I can’t wait to see where it goes!”

We’ll have more as we get closer to the release date.
