Vintage plane crash takes Jake Jenkins

Event Details

We have learned that Jake Jenkins, former banjo player with Karl Shiflett and the Big Country Show, was killed along with his parents in the crash of his classic 1946 Stinson 108 airplane in Dickens County, TX sometime on Sunday.

Wreckage from the crash was discovered on Sunday afternoon, and it is believed that the plane went down sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning, after having taken off nearby. No further details about a possible cause have been released.

The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to give a press briefing later today, but the remote location has made conveying information difficult.

Jake was an equipment operator with the Lubbock Fire Department, and was a first rate bluegrass banjo player to boot.

Here he is with Karl in 2001.

Bluegrass Today extends our sincere condolences to Jake’s family and friends.
