Union House Records launches

Union House RecordsUnion House Records has begun operation, being the latest such venture created to focus on bluegrass music. It’s structured as a sort of artist and writer’s collective, owned and managed jointly by Mike Bentley, Jeff Brown, Shannon Slaughter, and Dale Felts.

The label will release albums for each of the owners (Shannon & Heather Slaughter, Jeff Brown & Still Lonesome, and Mike Bentley & Cumberland Gap Connection), plus such other projects that they collectively deem appropriate.

Felts is a successful bluegrass songwriter, whose experience with music licensing, copyrighting, song publishing, and royalty distribution will be depended upon for all their releases.

The four decided to team up, recognizing that if they continued to focus on independent releases, each would be responsible for all of the design, licensing, manufacturing, distribution, advertising and promotion for every new project in turn. Together, they will have a team to assist in these various tasks for all of their albums.

Being just founded this month, the Slaughters missed the opportunity to release their current album, Never Just A Song, on Union House, though the label will handle the distribution.

Shannon says that the joint venture is a perfect fit for he and Heather.

Shannon Slaughter“I’m real excited to be a part of Union House Records! Each of the assembled owners brings a little different perspective to the label and that’s great. The guys involved here are really bright, hard-working folks and we all have a focused vision for Union House Records.

We came together in a supportive coalition to provide an artist driven label to bluegrass music. Union House Records – By Artists, For Artists.

He said that there are no immediate plans to bring in other artists, but that they will consider all inquiries seriously.

The central office for the label will be maintained in Hickory, NC by Felts, with each of the other owners working from their individual home offices as well.

Union House Records can be reached through their web site.
