Tommy Brown to Randm Records

tommy_longRandm Records in San Deigo, CA has announced the signing of Kentucky’s Tommy Brown and the County Line Grass. Tommy and the band will be bringing their super traditional, Stanley-inflected sound to the label with a new album later this year.

Long fronts the band on banjo and lead vocals, with a passel of kin folk in tow. His son Jereme plays guitar and sings, daughter Rachel plays bass, and wife Laura helps with the vocals. Josh Rinkel also plays guitar and sings lead, and Wayne Fyffe is on fiddle. They are one of those groups that sound as though they have never even experienced modern music, hewing to the mountain style with a minimalist approach and a ton of drive.

Randm is a highly eclectic label with a variety of artists who play blues, bluegrass, Americana, folk, rock and whatever else they find enjoyable, focusing on quality over genre.

Speaking for Randm, John Paul Cavanaugh says…

“We are thrilled to be come out of the gate with the great talents of Tommy Brown and the band, and we look forward to joining forces with them as they continue to thrill bluegrass audiences across the country.”

You can get a feel for their mountain sound in this video from a couple years ago.

That is oooooooold timey.

Brown and the band are preparing material now for recording sessions in June, and hope to have their first Randm project sometime this Fall.
