The Mountain Doctor from Don Rigsby

The Mountain Doctor - Don RigsbyThe first single from Don Rigsby’s Doctor’s Orders album in available now from Rebel Records.

The Mountain Doctor, written by Don and Larry Cordle, is the project’s only new song. It tells the story of the great Ralph Stanley, for whom the album serves as a tribute. The lyrics are chock full of references to Stanley songs, with the instrumental breaks recreating Ralph’s classic Clinch Mountain Backstep.

The rest of the tracks are given over to numbers that Ralph had recorded over his lengthy career. Assisting Don with vocals are emeritus members of Stanley’s band, Larry Sparks, Charlie Sizemore and Ricky Skaggs.

Stanley makes an appearance on the single, as do former/current Clinch Mountain Boys Steve Sparkman on banjo and James Alan Shelton on guitar, with Ron Stewart and Matt Hooper on fiddles, and Barry Bales on bass. Rigsby sings lead and plays mandolin.
