Congratulations to Sons of the South who took first place in the Mountain Fever bluegrass band contest this past weekend at the Bluegrass Island Festival on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. As winners, they receive a booking at the 2017 festival with a $2,000 fee, plus ten hours of recording time at Mountain Fever Studio.
The longstanding traditional bluegrass group from Statesville, NC had already taken 6th place at the Old Fiddler’s Convention at Galax last month, and first at the Got To Be NC festival at the state fairgrounds in Raleigh.
Sons of the South are Michael Souther on banjo, Gary Isenhour on guitar, Connor Lambert on mandolin, Franklin Rash on bass, and Rick Lowe on fiddle.
Their latest CD, Hilltops and Backroads, has just recently been released. The free time at Mountain Fever should come in handy as they contemplate the next.
