Sally Sandker Ziesing, Musician First Class in the US Navy, guitarist and vocalist with US Navy Band Country Current, and daughter of Rhonda Vincent, has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for her fine work with the band.
While not as prestigious as a Navy Cross or a Medal of Honor, any military honor is something to be proud of, and we are sure that Sally and her family are plenty pleased to see her recognized in this way.
The Department of the Navy describes this award saying:
The award shall be given for meritorious service or achievement in a combat or noncombat situation based on sustained performance or specific achievement of a superlative nature, and shall be of such merit as to warrant more tangible recognition than is possible by a fitness report or evaluation sheet, but which does not warrant a Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal or higher.
They further state that:
Professional achievement which merits the award must clearly exceed that which is normally required or expected, considering the individuals grade or rate, training, and experience; and be an important contribution of benefit to the United States and the naval service.
Country Current is the Navy’s bluegrass and country music group, and they perform for a variety of functions, both near their home base in Washington, DC, and all over the US for ceremonial and recruiting purposes. They also play at bluegrass festivals, representing the Navy.
Sally was a member of her mom’s band, The Rage, for many years, and is a strong singer on her own accord.
Here she is with Country Current singing Sara Evan’s hit song, Suds in the Bucket, at a recent concert at the US Capitol.
Many congratulations, Sally, and well done!
