Western Canada’s High Bar Gang has released a music video for one of the tracks from their sophomore album, Someday The Heart Will Trouble The Mind.
It’s a distaff version of Flatt & Scruggs’ evergreen, Don’t This Road Look Rough and Rocky, sung by the Gang’s trio of Kirby Barker, Wendy Bird, and Shari Ulrich. Somehow the song doesn’t feel so lonely with these ladies singing it – or maybe it’s the video filled with smiling faces.
The album features 13 selections chosen from what the band calls the “cheating and hurting” side of old time bluegrass, all performed with the same easy going vibe you hear in this video. In fact, the High Bar Gang is so dedicated to the old time way that band leader Colin Nairne only agreed to record in stereo after engineer Dave Meszaros promised to utilize the legendary Decca tree microphone technique from the 1950s, used primarily for recording large groups in a single room.
Someday The Heart Will Trouble The Mind is available now wherever bluegrass music is sold, including their label’s (True North Records) web site.
