Mountains of Music schedule released for 2016

momThe good people with Virginia’s Crooked Road have released the schedule for their 2016 Mountains of Music Homecoming, a ten day series of concerts and festivals spread all across the southwestern part of the state celebrating all forms of mountain music.

There’ll be bluegrass, old time, and Gospel music a-plenty from June 10-16 at two dozen venues, some large, some less so, in cities and towns along Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail.

Each event is separately ticketed and are listed in three regions. The Homecoming is designed to allow visitors to travel along the Crooked Road, which runs from Bristol in the west to Rocky Mount to the east, and spend time in the many communities who still retain and commemorate the folkways, and folk music, of Appalachian culture.

Artists who will appear include big names like IIIrd Tyme Out, Seldom Scene, Lonesome River Band, Ricky Skaggs, Claire Lynch, Steep Canyon Rangers, Larry Keel, and Blue Highway, to local and regional favorites. The goal of the Mountains of Music Homecoming is to tempt people who love the music to venture into parts of Virginia that they wouldn’t otherwise encounter, and meet the people who live there.

Here’s the 2016 schedule:

The ten day music celebration is sponsored and supported by a long list of Virginia businesses, communities, and organizations who want to see this music thrive and live on into successive generations. Check it out!
