Merry Christmas from Mike Munford

When It's Christmas Time - The Depue BrothersMike Munford, reigning IBMA Banjo Player of the Year, is featured on When It’s Christmas Time, the new Christmas album from The Depue Brothers Band. It’s not a bluegrass project – the brothers are classical string musicians who work in that field – but banjo is part of several of the arrangements.

Among the tracks on the album is Mike’s banjo medley, something he put together several years ago. It includes What Child Is This, Sing We All of Christmas, Veni Veni Emmanuel, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and Carol of the Bells. Mike said he had played it during the holiday season around Baltimore for some time, and that Wallace Depue added a few classical touches for the album.

Here’s a music video for the banjo medley they shot back in August. Mike tells us that it was weird enough to be recording a Christmas album all through the year, but especially so wearing suits and scarves for the video shoot when it was almost 100˚ in Philadelphia.
