At the 14-year mark, The Grass Stains have carved out a niche being known as the best progressive Bluegrass group in West VirginiaÛªs contemporary bluegrass scene. The band’s two albums and their crowd pleasing live performances are testaments to their prominence . Annual performances at the areaÛªs festivals and fairs give proof to their popularity. Founding band members Matt Poff (lead vocals, mandolin) and Bill Bagby (banjo) combined with the musical talent of Jarrod Saul (guitar) and Linda Cochran (fiddle, backup vocals) keep the progressive style we have been known for moving forward at full tilt.
With a deep bench of experienced songwriters, vocalists and instrumentalists, The Grass Stains have populated two CDÛªs with original songs and a spattering of Stained cover tunes. A quote from Bluegrass Unlimited’s review of our latest CD states “The Grass Stains have created a marvelous assortment of bluegrass music that emphasizes the creativity of each member”. The bands high level of musical versatility allows them to acclimate their style of Bluegrass to coincide with a wide variety of musical genres.
