NYCity Slickers

The NYCity Slickers is an 8 piece, high energy, progressive bluegrass band that combines the wailing tight harmonies and talents of three gorgeous gal singers with the hard driving sound of five musically gifted guys on banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass, hammered dulcimer and accordion. Their unique “City Style Bluegrass” is an eclectic mix of traditional bluegrass, Americana pop, delta blues, zydeco, gospel, originals and covers resulting in theatrically inspired, toe tappin’, one-of-a-kind, rockin’ hot grass.

Banjo Legend, Tony Trischka, had this to say after hearing our debut album, Layin’ It Down.

‰ÛÏThe singing is fabulous and impassioned, which is what modern day bluegrass could use more of. The arrangements are stellar and the material is strong.‰Û

They just released their second album, Cotton Comet Sky, at the legendary NYC Bitter End. After returning from their highly successful “Mississippi Home” tour playing to sold-out houses, the renowned Morgan Freeman Blues Club – Ground Zero and the stage where the Soggy Bottom Boys filmed “O, Brother,” the NYCity Slickers were encouraged to record songs that they featured on the tour. Cotton Comet Sky is the culmination of this “songs from home” journey. Inspired by a genuine love of their Mississippi roots, this 6 track album (which includes 3 originals: Rumor Gal, Family Tradition & Weight Liftin’ Jesus) continues to reflect the eclectic mix of musical styles that they explored on their debut album, Layin’ It Down, which has become characteristic of the NYCity Slickers‰Ûª signature sound.

Formed in 2008 they have been making waves in the NYC bluegrass and acoustic music scene drawing creative inspiration from their multi-faceted performance careers ranging from musical theatre, Nashville stages, country, folk, jazz, pop, orchestral, film and TV. One of NYC’s premier bluegrass bands, the Slickers regularly play all over NYC at the following venues: Rodeo Bar, Rockwood Music Hall, Hill Country, The Bitter End, Tammany Hall, Governor’s Island, Galapagos, The Jalopy, Tribeca Performing Arts Center and ‰ÛÏTake Me to the River‰Û on Pier 84.
