Janet Davis Music grand opening celebration

Janet Davis Acoustic MusicJanet Davis Music has been among the top retailers of bluegrass instruments, accessories and music for almost four decades now, starting as a small family business run by banjo teacher Janet Davis and her husband, Jim. Last year, the Davis’s handed over operations to new owners, and the store has moved to a new location in Bentonville, AR.

Even with a spacious new showroom and tons of extra display space, the largest part of their business is through online mail order, having developed a reputation for competitive pricing and expert set up on new banjos, mandolins, guitars, and such. But they also have a steady walk-in market, which they hope will expand in the new building.

On Friday, March 7, Janet Davis Acoustic Music, the company’s new name, will celebrate a Grand Opening weekend with music, fun and special price offers to announce their new storefront, and new Saturday hours.

Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, who have enjoyed the sponsorship of Janet Davis for several years, will be on hand to offer instrument workshops during the day, and to close out the evening with a free concert. The workshops are also offered free of charge, but with limited space available, the proprietors request that interested pickers make a reservation in advance by calling the store (800-933-5362).

Next Friday’s workshop line up is as follows:

  • 2:00 – 3:00  Joe Mullins banjo
  • 2:00 – 3:00  Evan McGregor fiddle
  • 3:30 – 4:30  Randy Barnes bass
  • 3:30 – 4:30  Mike Terry mandolin
  • 4:30 – 6:30  Social hour with the Radio Ramblers, refreshments.
  • 6:30 – 7:30  Concert with Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers (bring a chair)

On Saturday (3/8), there will be open jamming from 2:00-5:00 p.m., followed by a free concert from local favorites Crazy Mule at 6:00.

Derek Van Lynn, who has worked in customer service with Janet Davis for many years, tells us that the change has been beneficial already, and they can’t wait to show off their new home next weekend.

“The new store is more comfortable and welcoming for customers. We have bigger instrument display areas, several spots for jamming, and it’s all on one floor. The parts and accessories are on display, along with everything else.

We’re now open on Saturdays to expand our presence locally in Northwest Arkansas and the tri-state area including Missouri and Oklahoma. We’re still maintaining a healthy online business while improving our brick-and-mortar store.”

Derek also shared these photos of the new store.
