Introducing March MASHness 2016

mashness_thEvery Spring the attention of sports fans in the US turns to college basketball as the NCAA tournament cracks into gear. Whether you love the roundball or view it with disdain, there’s no avoiding the mania that occurs when 68 college teams go for the title in a bracketed contest that runs for several weeks.

Thanks to an idea by Daniel Mullins, we will be running a similarly-structured contest here at Bluegrass Today, asking our readers to pick their favorite bluegrass artist in a series of head-to-head polls based on the following bracket.

We have divided these top pickers and singers into four divisions: Founding Fathers, Battle of the Bands, Ingenious Innovators, and Leading Ladies. Every few days we will offer a new set of polls where readers can choose among two artists, following the bracket, until we crown a winner of the 2016 March MASHness!

2016 Bluegrass Today March MASHness - opening round

To participate, simply vote in the four categories below, starting with the Founding Fathers. We’ll post another division each day for the next three days. On Tuesday, we will post the polls for the second round, based on the first round winners.

It should be fun, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Only one vote per person in each poll question.

Daniel and I served as the selection committee, and he had the final say. Send all complaints about seedings or who was left off to him!

If everyone enjoys this, we could refine the categories each year and keep it going. Vote away.
