I’m Going Back To Old Kentucky #73

From October 1, 2010 through to the end of September 2011, we will, each day, celebrate the life of Bill Monroe by sharing information about him and those people who are associated with his life and music career. This information will include births and deaths; recording sessions; single, LP and CD release dates; and other interesting tidbits. Richard F. Thompson is responsible for the research and compilation of this information. We invite readers to share any tidbits, photos or memories you would like us to include.

  • December 12, 1949 Single released – Blue Grass Stomp / Girl In A Blue Velvet Band (Columbia 20648, 33rpm / 2 – 423)
  • December 12, 1959 Bill Monroe was served with a divorce petition by Carolyn Minnie Brown Monroe.  *

* Bill Monroe met his Carolyn Brown in 1934 and they married on October 18, 1936. They were divorced on August 12, 1960.

Although they were separated for a few years before the divorce, Carolyn Monroe continued to handle her husband’s business affairs during that time.
