Allie Burbrink is a self-taught guitar player, bluegrass and old-time musician, and former 7th grade English teacher. As a member of the Indiana-based band The Whipstitch Sallies for several years, she sang lead and harmony, wrote songs, and played guitar, clawhammer banjo, and harmonica. Allie currently plays in a duo with Frank Lee and in the popular old-time string band The Freight Hoppers, based in western North Carolina.
*Wernick Method Classes teach real bluegrass jamming:
-Hands-on learning in large and small groups
-Learn many bluegrass standards
-Gentle tempos! Mistakes expected!
-Full ground rules and etiquette of typical jams
-How to lead songs and how to follow new songs
-How to find melodies, fake solos, sing harmony
-Ear skills taught and emphasized, as in real bluegrass
-Reading skills not needed or used
-Group and individualized instruction on backup skills
-Understanding, low-pressure, time-tested teaching
