Uncle Dave Macon Days, a roots rendezvous which honors traditional American music and the career of the first superstar of the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Famer, Uncle Dave Macon. This year marks the 42nd Anniversary of the annual Uncle Dave Macon Days festival starting with small beginnings which attracted only a few old-time music enthusiasts on the lawn of the Courthouse in 1978.
Throughout the festival’s national competitions is the best in authentic old-time music and dance with participants here locally, across the nation, and worldwide.
According to Eventbrite…..”Forward thinking festivals that differentiate and thrive are broadening their fan base. It’s important to have cool things to do for people to immerse themselves outside the stages.”
Uncle Dave Macon Day is forward thinking! It doesn’t get any better than this… “To stroll through a reconstructed pioneer village with a cold lemonade, listening to the warm harmonies on the porches and under the trees near the banks of Town Creek in Cannonsburgh Village while experiencing the best of roots music on the main stages.”
Uncle Dave Macon Days spreads the love of authentic roots music in a unique way on two stages: Macon Manor and the Dixie Dew Drop.
Other family-oriented events taking place throughout the festival include: heritage activities for children, mouth-watering local concessions, a juried arts and crafts show in Matilda Macon’s Artisan Village, Dave Macon’s Marketplace, and a historic photo exhibit. Along with the lively festival competitions and the National Championships in music and dance, Saturday evening promises to be one of the best highlighting the talent who have made Uncle Dave Macon Days a success for the past 42 years. The celebration takes place in Cannonsburgh, a genuine pioneer village. Cannonsburgh Village is home to more than 20 restored log structures and will feature living history demonstrations during the weekend. Visit a working blacksmith or join in with some old-fashioned shape-note singing in the little white church.
