Bill Monroe’s Sons of Bluegrass, featuring Billy Baker, Mike Compton, Tom Ewing, Doug Hutchins, and Butch Robins

Bill Monroe, the revered Father of Bluegrass, considered his Blue Grass Boys band a training ground for musicians. This concert brings together five of the musicians who shared the road and stage with Monroe for a celebration of his enduring body of music. Banjoist Butch Robins, fiddler Billy Baker, and bassist Doug Hutchens hail from Southwest Virginia. They will be joined by Ohio guitarist Tom Ewing, and mandolinist Mike Compton of the Nashville Bluegrass Band. This special Friday night concert is part of The Crooked Road’s Mountains of Music Homecoming festival.

Free pre-concert activities include a presentation by Tom Ewing author of Bill Monroe: The Life and Music of the Blue Grass Man, at 5 p.m., and the program, The Bill Monroe Legacy, featuring stories about Monroe by the artists at 5:30 p.m. at the indoor theater.
