Drs. Gibson, I presume

Event Details

Eric and Leigh GibsonIt looks like we will soon have to address Leigh and Eric Gibson as Doctor, as they are both being awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the State University of New York.

They had already received bachelors degrees from SUNY Plattsburgh the old fashioned way, Eric in Secondary Education, and Leigh in both English and Communication. But on May 15, the two brothers will accept their honorary titles at the SUNY Plattsburgh commencement.

Leigh recalls his time at Plattsburgh fondly.

“Attending Plattsburgh State allowed me a chance to experience a world outside of our small farming community. Yet because of its close proximity to Ellenburg. I was able to stay close to the roots that make up such large part of my music. I couldn’t have made a better choice.”

And Eric speaks of the gratitude they feel at being named for an honorary doctorate.

“Receiving this honor is one of the nicest surprises of my life. To be honored at our alma mater makes it even more special. We have many great memories from our days at Plattsburgh State University.”

The brothers are touring aggressively this year in support of their latest project, Brotherhood, an album of tribute recordings saluting the many great brother duet teams who showed them the way. But I’m sure they’ll take a break long enough to attend the commencement in May.

Congratulations, Drs. Gibson!
