Don and Ralph – Doctor’s Orders

I just got a pre-release copy of Don Rigsby’s upcoming CD, a tribute to Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys called Doctor’s Orders. I asked Don how he came up with the name and he said,

“The songs were hand picked by Ralph and me, thus Doctors Orders.”

I don’t have liner notes or anything yet, just a burned CD-R, but let me tell you, it has the Stanley sound, and is laden with many of the lesser played Ralph Stanley gems.

It starts out with a brand new song, written by Don and the prolific Larry Cordle, Mountain Doctor, a tribute to Ralph himself, and has the good Dr. on the track, as well! If I’m not mistaken it’s Charlie Cushman on the banjo, but I don’t even want to make guesses at the other players at this point. It’s all so Stanley-rich that you could think it’s Uncle George, Pap Napier and Chubby Ant’ny.

Stay tuned for the full, pre-release review once I’ve gotten the actual CD. I, for one, can barely wait.
