Cups video from The Bankesters

Love Has Wheels - The BankestersHere’s a tough one. What do you get when you mix pretty girls with a catchy pop song, a crack bluegrass band, a summer vibe and a bunch of enthusiastic youngsters?

Unless you fall down somewhere in the execution, it’s a recipe for success, something that The Bankesters and Compass Records hope they have captured in their music video for the Cups Song (When I’m Gone) from their upcoming album, Love Has Wheels.

Emily Bankester is out front on this one, displaying the engaging voice and smooth delivery that won her an IBMA Momentum Award in 2012. Oh… and a winning smile.

The rest of The Bankesters are featured as well, with a guest appearance by Sierra Hull who played mandolin on this one in the studio.

When I’m Gone was an international sensation last year when it was included in both the plot and the soundtrack of Pitch Perfect in 2012. The film was about a high school choral group, and the young star used this song – and the clever hand/cup percussions – as her audition. YouTube is now filled with videos of performances, and tutorials on how to “do the cups,” counting in the multi millions.

So… has the time for the Cups Song come and gone, or can it be revived with a bluegrass version? We shall see.

I smell hit.

Love Has Wheels is set for a September 24 release.
