The Appalachian Road Show has been booked to perform this year at the Country Night Gstaad festival in the Swiss Alps, along with country star Dwight Yoakam, Texas rocker Drake Milligan, and Swiss country pop singer Amber Rae.
It is a high honor to be selected to perform at this 37th annual running of this event, to be held September 11 and 12 in a huge festival tent, and it’s not lost of the Road Show. Fiddler Jim VanCleve tells us that while he was working in country music, he heard artists discuss what a spectacular place it was to play.
“The Gstaad Country fest is something I’ve heard about for years. Everybody raves about how beautiful it is, and I’d have to say, photos confirm this!
A few years ago, right after I joined Josh Turner, they had all just gotten back from Gstaad, Switzerland, and I must have heard about it 700,000 times! So, I’m very grateful to get the opportunity to experience this incredible place with our own band as well now.
As I understand it, the Gstaad Country festival specifically inquired about having Appalachian Road Show, and once I saw the email come through I quickly called Barry and asked if he had anything in the pipeline that might conflict – because if we could do it, we definitely would want to try!
By all accounts, it’s one of the most incredible places in the world, and to be there appearing alongside Dwight Yoakam, well, that is just pretty cool.”
Country Night Gstaad turns a piece of Switzerland into a huge, outdoor Texas bar scene, with line dancing, American food and drink, and a cowboy/western theme. Many Europeans have a fascination with tales of the “wild west” from US history, and attendees often appear dressed in that vibe.
The band is looking forward to seeing some of the sights on their journey over to the Alps, and to deliver some quality bluegrass entertainment in that setting.
Perhaps they’ll share some photos upon their return!
