Pitt Resophonic Guitars has announced an endorsement for Glen Grain, reso-guitarist with The Edgar Loudermilk Band.
The guitars are made by Jerry Pitt in Melcher-Dallas, Iowa. Pitt is relatively new to the luthiery game, starting to build only a few years ago with a vision of creating a professional-grade resophonic guitar at a reasonable price.
At this point, he offers two models, both based on the Dobro guitars that helped define the role of the instrument in bluegrass. He calls them the Little Old Hound, and the Big Old Hound, both models selling for well under $2,000. The Little Old Hound is a small-bodied mahogany guitar selling for $999, and its big brother a larger, rosewood body for $1799.
Glen met up with Jerry just a few months ago, and the two became fast friends. Before long, the endorsement deal was struck.
Crain says that he loved his from the first time he played it.
“He (Jerry) can turn out an excellent resophonic guitar for $999. I want to be able to push a guitar that is handmade yet affordable for a beginner as well as a seasoned player. For me it was love at first sight and I couldn’t wait to try it out in a microphone on stage. I did just that in Clarkesville, Georgia and fell in love with my Old Hound from Pitt Resophonic Guitars all over again.”
