Noted Tennessee fiddler Carl Franklin passed away on Tuesday (12/11) after suffering a massive stroke at his home in Hendersonville on Monday. He was 58 years old.
Carl was a fixture on the fiddle contest circuit, where he claimed many championships, and had previously worked as a clogger on the Grand Ole Opry. Fiddling and dancing were his twin passions, and he is said to have played a central role in organizing a number of clogging groups in Middle Tennessee. He was married to Diane Spicer Franklin, whose father Robert Spicer was a legend in Tennessee buckdancing circles.
Here’s a video of Carl competing recently in the 2012 Grand Master Fiddle Championship in Nashville.
