Jet Airliner video from Jody King and Larry Cordle

Jody King and The Mighty Cord

Mighty Cord Records has put together a very clever music video for Jody King’s latest release, a grassed-up cut of Steve Miller’s Jet Airliner, with the Mighty Cord himself on lead vocals.

Jody explained how this fanciful film adventure, which finds him taking both a helicopter and a private plane journey – and appearing on huge stages in a variety of settings – came to be.

“Growing up in the MTV generation, I’ve always loved music videos and spent plenty of time imagining what I’d do if I ever had the chance to create one of my own. Thanks to today’s technology, that opportunity finally became a reality. Once I realized I could turn Larry Cordle into ‘The Mighty Cord,’ the rest of the adventure seemed to write itself.

I wanted the video to be funny, adventurous, a little over-the-top, and a reflection of the nerdy side of my personality. There was a steep learning curve, and the project took a lot of time and effort, but I’m incredibly proud of how it turned out. More than anything, it’s my way of saying thank you to everyone who has supported the single and supported me throughout the years. I hope people have half as much fun watching it as I had making it.

This video is just the beginning. Fans can expect more singles, more videos, and a full project in the future. At the same time, I’m grateful for the opportunity to be touring with the great guys in Southern Legacy during Ron Block’s time away with Alison Krauss & Union Station. After spending years focused on other aspects of my career, it’s exciting to be back on the road nationally and internationally, doing what I love. I’m having a great time, and I plan to keep this chapter going for as long as I can.”

Quite an imagination our Mr. King has, and tremendous patience. But it’s all in service to the bluegrass.

The track features Jody on banjo and Larry on lead vocal, with Chase Johner on mandolin and Aubrey Haynie on fiddle, with Chris Harris and Val Storey singing harmony.

Check out his work.

Jet Airliner is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct.
