Grasstowne in Scandinavia

Event Details

Alan Bibey and Blake Johnson interviewed at Radio Helsinki before a Grasstowne showGrasstowne is now a few days into their summer tour of Scandinavia. The band is finishing up a week in Finland, and will be heading to Norway later this week.

Fearless leader (and mandolinist) Alan Bibey has promised to send us updates and photos as time and internet service allow.

Here’s his first report:

“We had our first show in the town of Loviisa, Finland to a packed house and ended up doing three encores. The crowd was wonderful and very receptive. Jussi Syren and the Groundbreakers are a great Finnish Bluegrass Band that are opening up for us on most of our shows.

We slept about 5 hours and then drove 7 hours due north to the town of Oulu to play a folk and blues festival. We are almost over the jet lag now!!

The photo above is Blake and I at radio Helsinki today doing an interview about our gig tomorrow night in Helsinki. It’s supposed to be one of the most famous clubs in Helsinki.

Then we did workshops with a lot of the local bluegrass musicians. They’re very good! We did all instrument and vocal workshops.

Moy (that’s bye in Finnish which I’m pretty fluent in after a couple days…..ha). More to come!!

Grasstowne banjo picker Justin Jenkins also shared a few photos of the view from where they have been staying this week, and a 1200 year old church they happened across on their travels.
