Once Upon A Time In Appalachia

Event Details

Ryan Cavanaugh has released the latest single in his Back Country series of modern banjo compositions.

Like the others so far, Once Upon A Time In Appalachia was recorded with Bill Evans on saxophone, Mark Egan on bass, Tyson Rogers on keyboard, and Joel Rosenblatt on drums. Eli Bishop is also featured on violin this time around.

But this time Ryan is using an acoustic banjo for his jazzy explorations, as he plans to do for the next and final release in the series as well.

Cavanaugh has toured with Evans in the past, and has made quite a study of  jazz on his own. As you might imagine, there aren’t many mentors in that arena for five-stringers.

If you enjoy both banjo and contemporary jazz, give this one a tumble. The track is available now from iTunes.
