Banjo man Frank Evans has released his second single with Engelhardt Music Group, a modern banjo tune he wrote called Cecil Blue, with an unexpected source.
Evans, a home pack leader, explained…
“Cecil Blue is an instrumental I wrote inspired by my dog, Cecil. When we adopted her, she was part of a group of dogs named after shampoos, hers was Selsun Blue. Wanting to keep it similar, we chose the name Cecil.
She’s incredibly fun and full of joy, which is exactly the feeling I hoped this tune would capture.
Having Mike Bub, Shad Cobb, Casey Campbell, Gaven Largent, and Jake Stargel on the recording made it easy to lean into that spirit and have fun with the arrangement. Of course, things took a turn when someone pushed for an extended banjo solo at the end, but honestly, I love how it all came together.”
We’ll never know just how extended that banjo solo turned out to be, as the track fades out part way through. But it is a mighty sprightly number, well played by all, and well worth a listen.
Check it out.
Cecil Blue is available now from popular download and streaming services online.
