Banjo hitmaker Daniel Grindstaff and his band, The Uptown Troubadours, have a new single today with Pinecastle Records, along with an accompanying music video.
The song is Denver, written by country artist Larry Gatlin. It was a hit for The Gatlin Brothers in 1984, and Daniel and the guys have worked it up as a bluegrass anthem for this recording.
Guitarist Kevin Richardson sings the lead, supported by Daniel on banjo, Derek Deakins on fiddle, and Kent Blanton on bass. Shawn Lane added mandolin, with Stephen Burwell playing the twin fiddle part. Daniel and Kent sing harmony.
For the music video, shot in Daniel’s hometown of Elizabethton, TN on their historic covered bridge, Troy Boone stands in on mandolin, as does Derek’s wife, Lisa Deakins, on second fiddle.
Daniel says that he thinks that they scored a bluegrass debut with the video shoot.
“As far as I know, it’s the first music video to ever be done there. That’s where we did the photos for our album cover as well.”
