Jennings Chestnut benefit planned

Alan Bibey just contacted us with some unfortunate news…

“Our dear friend Jennings Chestnut that has for many years put on the Bluegrass On The Waccamaw Festival in Conway, SC and helped start the Ocean Lakes Bluegrass Festival, has been diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. We’re in the process of trying to find bands and available dates that we can get the most bands to come play for a benefit for Jennings and his family. Anybody that is willing to help please contact me at loar1923@hotmail.com

Please keep Jennings and his family in your prayers.”

Jennings is also a prominent luthier who builds banjos and mandolins under the Chestnut brand. He operates a music store in Conway, Chestnut Mandolins, and is a great friend to bluegrass music and musicians.

We’ll keep you posted on plans for a benefit show, and how bluegrass lovers worldwide can offer assistance.

You can read more about Jennings Chestnutt on Ted Lehmann’s blog, and in a Bluegrass Unlimited article by Caroline Wright from 2001.
