Hornets v. Spurs – with Blue Highway

Blue HighwayBlue Highway will be on hand in Charlotte, NC for tonight’s (1/14) NBA contest between the hometown Hornets and the 2014 champion San Antonio Spurs. The guys have been invited to sing the national anthem before the game, which tips off at 7:00 p.m.

All the Blue Highway boys are excited for this opportunity, something they’ve done before for a NASCAR event in Bristol, but none more than mandolinist and tenor vocalist Shawn Lane, the band’s resident roundball buff. In addition to their busy road schedule, he finds time to serve as a youth basketball coach where he lives in Walhalla, SC.

“I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to sing American-made music for a game of my favorite sport in the USA, basketball. It’s gonna be a blast!”

They have also been invited to perform the anthem on February 17 before the game between the Universities of Tennessee and Kentucky in Knoxville.

Bassist Wayne Taylor says that they feel privileged to do so.

“We’re always honored to do this song anytime, anywhere. But it’s even more of an honor to do it at major events such as these. Looking forward to being in Charlotte and Knoxville representing our country and our music.”

Tonight’s game will be televised at least regionally by the Fox South network, and WFNZ 610 AM Radio. Not sure if the singing of the anthem will be covered.
