2015 Northern California Bluegrass Awards

ncbsIt’s awards season in Tinseltown, as you can tell if you open a newspaper or turn on the TV. But it’s not just for the movies, or just in southern California.

Over the weekend, the 8th annual Northern California Bluegrass Awards were distributed during the week-long, free Bluegrass on Broadway festival in Redwood City, CA. Among the individual and band trophies distributed, Lifetime Achievement honors were presented to Cactus Bob & Prairie Flower (Bob Cole and Chris Stevenson), Charlie Cran of the Strawberry Music Festival, and Penny Godlis of the Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival.

2015 winners include:

  • Best Bluegrass Band – The Tuttles with A.J. Lee
  • Best Fiddle Player – Jack Tuttle
  • Best Mandolin Player – Michael Tuttle
  • Best Guitar Player – Yoseff Tucker
  • Best Banjo Player – Larry Cohea
  • Best Dobro Player – Jim Mintun
  • Best Bass Player – Lisa Burns and Louise Mintun (tie)
  • Best Male Vocalist – Snap Jackson and Billy Pitron (tie)
  • Best Female Vocalist – A.J. Lee

Congratulations and well done to them all!

This year’s Bluegrass on Broadway once again hosted the Northern California Bluegrass Society Bluegrass Film Festival. A total of seven films were screened, from shorts to full-length features.

All festival events are funded through generous donations from Redwood City Civic Cultural Commission, the Redwood City Public Library, the Redwood City Department of Parks Recreation & Community Services, and John Dabney.
