Just As I Am video from Brothers of the Heart

Gaither Music is about to release Listen To The Music, a second album from Brothers of the Heart, the bluegrass gospel superstar singing group consisting of Bradley Walker, Jimmy Fortune, Mike Rogers, and Ben Isaacs. It is the followup to their hit debut project, Brotherly Love, from 2020 which drew more than 30 million streams online.

All four of these artists have already had a career that sets them apart from their peers, Fortune as a member of The Statler Brothers, Isaacs with his family group, The Isaacs, Rogers with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver and Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, and Walker on a string of recordings and live performances that highlight his uniquely agile and expressive voice.

Listen To The Music was recorded live, for both audio and video, and will release on CD and DVD on January 20. It includes a mix of sacred and secular songs, all of which should be familiar to anyone who has followed the pop, country, bluegrass, or gospel music of this past 40 years.

The arrangements are left intentionally spare so that the songs and the almost embarrassing wealth of vocal talent can shine on each cut.

Isaacs, who produced the album, said that they chose this route to allow them to cover classics like Ring of Fire, Desperado, Bye Bye Love, and Gentle on My Mind without distracting from the initial recordings.

“I feel like it starts with doing your best to honor the music’s roots. There are little signature licks, and I felt like it was important to not change an arrangement so much that you confuse people. So much of this type of record is about recognizability, so you want to do everything that you can to put your stamp on it but to also honor the originals.”

A pair of singles have been released ahead of the record’s January 20 street date. Here is one of them, the 19th century hymn Just As I Am, beautifully rendered by Bradley Walker and Jimmy Fortune. If you enjoy fine vocal harmony, this one is for you.

Bradley Walker shared a few words about why he feels so deeply about this project.

“For me, this is so much more than music. When you hear people talk about this group they say, ‘You can tell that you all love each other, and you can tell you all are having fun.’ That’s the best thing about it to me. That’s so much of the appeal of the group. It’s not just songs, the music, the harmonies, and all that, but the love between us and our love for people. I’m so thankful to be a part of this.”

The recorded live performance will air as a TV special on January 19 on RFD-TV at 6:30 p.m. (EST), and again on the 21st at 6:00 p.m. The same show will then air on UPtv on January 29th, at 9:00 a.m., and will later be seen on PBS, TBN, Heartland, GaitherTV, FamilyNet, CTN, GMTN, Guardian, Liberty, TCT and TLN. In Canada, the special will air on Vision TV, CTS, The Miracle Channel, and Hope TV.

Brothers of the Heart will celebrate the release of Listen To The Music with a live performance on February 7 at the Grand Ole Opry. Tickets are available online.

Pre-orders for Listen To The Music are enabled online. It will be available from popular download and streaming services on Friday.

Videos from Brotherly Love concert available online

Brotherly Love is a new album from Gaither Music featuring a quartet of prominent artists whose music has regularly crossed country, bluegrass, and Gospel boundaries. Recorded by four good friends – Jimmy Fortune, Bradley Walker, Mike Rogers, and Ben Isaacs – the CD hits on September 4, with a live performance special premiering on Heartland TV September 2.

Fortune spent his youth as a member of the iconic Statler Brothers before launching his solo career in the country world, where his music retains a bluegrass edge on live shows. We know Rogers from his time as a member of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and Isaacs as a member of his family’s superstar bluegrass/Gospel outfit, The Isaacs. Walker would be a bluegrass and country star if his disability allowed him to tour comfortably, but anyone who has heard him sing in either genre knows that he is the real deal.

The songs chosen for the record reflect their crossover appeal to bluegrass, country, and Gospel fans, presented in an acoustic setting with assistance from top Nashville super pickers. A number of videos have been released by Gaither to tease the upcoming TV program that offer a nice taste of the music. Jimmy, Bradley, and Mike take turns with the lead vocals, with four part harmony on most of the choruses.

Here are a few of them to show the exceptionally high quality of not only the singing, but the video and audio production as well.

First up, Vince Gill’s hit song written to honor his brother who died too young, Go Rest High On That Mountain.

And the Ralph Stanley classic, Man Of Constant Sorrow

Plus the Gospel standard, Where No One Stands Alone, originally recorded by the Statesmen Quartet, but made famous by Elvis Presley.

Pre-orders for Brotherly Love are available now online, and be sure to keep an eye out for the live TV special. After its premiere on Heartland TV, it is expected to also be broadcast by PBS, GaitherTV, RFD-TV, and several other networks dedicated to Gospel or country music.

Family Chain available again from John Bowman

John Bowman – fiddler, banjo picker and tenor vocalist with The Boxcars – has re-released his 2010 solo project, a bluegrass Gospel album called Family Chain. It is available now from his web site.

Until coming off the road in 2006 to teach school, John was an active touring musician. He spent time as a member of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Alison Krauss & Union Station, and The Isaacs, into whose family he had married. In 2009, he returned to performing when invited to be a founding member of The Boxcars.

On Family Chain, Bowman’s 4th solo release, he is assisted by Jeff and Sherri Easter on vocals, with Adam Steffey on mandolin, Jimmy Edmonds on bass and fiddle, Ben Isaacs on bass, Rob Ickes on reso-guitar, and Adam Mote on piano. John handled the lead vocals along with banjo and guitar.

“The project was recorded over a span of 3 years in several different studios. I recorded the project as a tribute to my father in law, Joe Isaacs.

Joe doesn’t travel a whole lot anymore. I wanted to do this to let him know what a blessing he is in my life and to others.

I played with The Isaacs for 12 years, and I love these songs. So, I thought it would be neat to put my own spin on the songs.”

Family Chain has been available in iTunes since 2011, but it can now be had on CD once again.
