Until coming off the road in 2006 to teach school, John was an active touring musician. He spent time as a member of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Alison Krauss & Union Station, and The Isaacs, into whose family he had married. In 2009, he returned to performing when invited to be a founding member of The Boxcars.
On Family Chain, Bowman’s 4th solo release, he is assisted by Jeff and Sherri Easter on vocals, with Adam Steffey on mandolin, Jimmy Edmonds on bass and fiddle, Ben Isaacs on bass, Rob Ickes on reso-guitar, and Adam Mote on piano. John handled the lead vocals along with banjo and guitar.
“The project was recorded over a span of 3 years in several different studios. I recorded the project as a tribute to my father in law, Joe Isaacs.
Joe doesn’t travel a whole lot anymore. I wanted to do this to let him know what a blessing he is in my life and to others.
I played with The Isaacs for 12 years, and I love these songs. So, I thought it would be neat to put my own spin on the songs.”
Family Chain has been available in iTunes since 2011, but it can now be had on CD once again.
