Two big DVD debuts for Sierra Hull

Sierra Hull, the diminutive song bird and fiery mando-monster, celebrated a pair of milestones last week. March 16 saw not only the release date of her first mandolin DVD, Secrets Songs & Tunes, but also the DVD release of Billy – The Early Years, the biopic on legendary evangelist Billy Graham, in which she has a minor speaking and singing role.

At a time when her first year classmates at the Berklee College of Music are studying instructional DVDs, Sierra has her own; and while teen acting students are hoping for roles in a school production, she had already walked the red carpet while still in high school.

We have posted a number of pieces on her experience doing the Billy film, which also features cameos from Ronnie Bowman, John Cowan, Ronnie McCoury and Randy Scruggs. Sierra had the role of Graham’s sister Catherine, during their youth.

As we mentioned last week, Sierra is back in the studio tracking for a new Rounder album, with Barry Bales producing. In that earlier post, both she and Barry share details about who is recording with them and we now come across some photos from the sessions at Brent Truitt’s studio in Nashville.

Looks like a big time. Is it Sierra that brings out the goof in all these guys?
