Oh It’s Christmas from Sage Palser and Danny Paisley

The duet partnership of rising songstress Sage Palser and veteran grasser Danny Paisley has borne further fruit, in the form of a new Christmas single just in time for the 2024 season, from Huckleberry Records.

Oh It’s Christmas, written by David Stewart and Mark “Brink” Brinkman, is a spirited, quick-moving bluegrass number on which the two vocalists trade verses, with Paisley taking the first round. Recorded with a crack band of Nashville superpickers, this one seems destined to become a standard.

Palser says that it was a real treat to be able to cut this with one of her heroes.

“I absolutely love Christmas and it was a joy to get to record this wonderful song that has the essence of a Christmas classic. And, to get to sing it with Danny Paisley is an extra bonus! Merry Christmas everyone!”

And Paisley shared how much he enjoyed it as well.

Oh, It’s Christmas is a fun holiday song about the joys of the season – the birth of our Savior, family, friends, and Santa Clause, of course. We hope you enjoy it as much as Sage and I enjoyed singing it.”

Helping out in the studio were Andy Leftwich on guitar, mandolin, and fiddle; Scott Vestal on banjo; Josh Swift on reso-guitar; and Darrin Vincent on bass.

Have a listen, and get in the spirit!

He Would’ve Wrote ‘Em All from Sage & Prairie Wildfire, with Dave Adkins

Sage Palser, a young bluegrass artist from Buffalo, WY, has been making big strides in the music since her powerful duet with Danny Paisley, What Crosses Your Mind, released early last year. Pairing this talented singer at the beginning of her career with such an established pro as Danny generated a lot of attention for how well she held her own alongside such an iconic singer as Paisley.

With that prior track in mind, Turnberry Records has again set Miss Palser together with a male counterpart for her next release, a duet with Dave Adkins on a new song by David Stewart and Tommy Barnes. Those who know Stewart’s style realize that he favors stories about how things used to be, and he brings exactly that energy to He Would’ve Wrote ‘Em All, a tribute to the great Hank Williams.

Thinking about this song, Stewart said…

“If Hank was still here, we’d have nothing to write about, because he would have wrote ’em all.

To this day, the song has a very special meaning to me, and I am very excited for these two great artists, Sage Palser and Dave Adkins, to record the song and take it to the fans.”

It’s a strong recording that fits well into a bluegrass/acoustic country template, and both Sage and Dave give it their all. Very nicely done!

Welcome Sage and Prairie Wildfire

Young, all-female group Prairie Wildfire from Wyoming is morphing into a new formation, with mandolinist and vocalist Sage Palser at the helm. They will go forward as Sage and Prairie Wildfire with new personnel, as Palser’s previous bandmates, Tessa Taylor and Morgan Blaney, have chosen to opt out out with school and other musical commitments coming to the fore.

Sage is preparing to complete her college studies and graduate this year, and wants to continue on in the bluegrass music business. She will inherit the contract that Prairie Wildfire has with Turnberry Records.

Her visibility skyrocketed last year with the release of a duet single and video with bluegrass stalwart Danny Paisley on his Pinecastle cut of What Crosses Your Mind, written by David Stewart.

A new album from Sage and Prairie Wildfire is expected later this year on Turnberry Records, and she says that fans can expect something new as well as something familiar.

“I’ll have all new people involved, and there will be at least a couple of David Stewart songs on there.”

This talented young artist is considering a move to Nashville this summer, which would certainly put her in close proximity to a great many bluegrass artists with whom to collaborate. She has already recorded another duet, this time with Dave Adkins, which should be released soon.

“I’m really excited to see what new direction I’m gonna go in, and what all that will bring.”

We certainly look forward to seeing – and hearing – wherever she goes later in 2024.

What Crosses Your Mind video from Danny Paisley and Sage Palser

Several months ago we highlighted a new song from Danny Paisley’s upcoming Pinecastle Records project, a poignant country waltz ballad called What Crosses Your Mind. It’s a real old time country number, perfectly suited to Danny’s lonesome style, which has just had a music video released by the label.

The song was written by Wyoming songsmith David Stewart and Sage Palser, a powerful teen performer who also duets it with Paisley. Part of a strong young group known as Prairie Wildfire with two other young women in the Cowboy State, Sage is a rising star in the bluegrass world and a vocal force to be reckoned with.

For the video, they have chosen a dark visual theme, matching the song’s tale of anguish and heartache. These two sing beautifully together, and it doesn’t seem possible that anyone who enjoys bluegrass or traditional country wouldn’t enjoy it.

What Crosses Your Mind from Danny Paisley, featuring Sage Palser

Pinecastle Records has released a first single from their next album with bluegrass music’s beloved Danny Paisley, and his Southern Grass. There have been few artists in our music as deeply admired and cherished as Danny has been throughout his career, and with this new track, he also features a rising talent from Wyoming, Sage Palser.

This is our first recorded taste of Danny’s voice since beating throat cancer last year, and it hasn’t lost a drop of the passion and emotive quality we have loved for so many years.

What Crosses Your Mind is a new waltz tempo tearjerker, written by David Stewart and Sage Palser, who duets with Paisley on the track. Sage is a member of Prairie Wildfire, along with two other talented young grasser girls from the great plains. She does a fine job stacked next to such an iconic and highly-recognized singer as Danny Paisley.

The two are supported by the members of Southern Grass, Ryan Paisley on mandolin, T.J. Lundy on fiddle, and Bobby Lundy on bass.
