Two new little Grascals in July

Last month was a joyous one for the Grascals family, as two members of the band, guitarist/vocalist John Bryan and fiddler Jamie Harper, welcomed new baby boys!

Jackson Oliver Bryan came first, born to John and Ashlynn Bryan on July 5 at 7:32 a.m. in Wilkesboro, NC. He weighed in at 7 lbs 13 oz, stretching out to 21.75”. Jackson was welcomed home by his big brother, Arlie.

Then on July 31, Stetson Tate Harper was born to Jamie and Lakyn Harper at 4:29 p.m. in Lebanon, TN. He made his appearance at an even 7 lbs, and 20” long. He is Jamie and Lakyn’s first child.

Moms and babies are both home and well, with proud new dads to attend them.

Many congratulations to the Bryans and the Harpers, and a great big Bluegrass Today welcome to both Jackson and Stetson!

Welcome Arlie Bryan – the littlest Grascal!

Another bluegrass baby! I guess we know what our favorite touring artists were doing during the 2020 lockdown.

This time we give a Bluegrass Today welcome to Arlie Reid Bryan, the first born child of John Bryan, guitarist/vocalist with The Grascals, and his wife, Ashlynn.

Arlie was born on February 13, weighing in at 7 lbs, 3 ounces, stretching out to 19”.

We understand that mom and son are doing well, and that John is so proud that he just can’t stop smiling.

Congratulations to Ashlynn and John, and a big 10-4 to little Arlie Reid!

Congratulations John and Ashlynn!

John Bryan, the most recent member of The Grascals, was wed this past Saturday, August 12, 2017, to Ashlynn Hill in a lovely, late afternoon ceremony at Sterling’s Pond in Deep Gap, NC.

The couple exchanged vows on a hilltop under a large maple tree, with their beloved Blue Ridge Mountains serving as the backdrop. The wedding was attended by family and friends with emotions running high, as all wished the newlyweds good luck in their future.

Ashlynn and John are honeymooning now in Longboat Key on the Gulf Coast of Florida, and will return to live in Boone, NC where Ashlynn serves as an elementary school teacher. John says that his bride doesn’t play or sing, but loves bluegrass as much as anyone!

Congratulations and best wishes to John and Ashlynn.

John Bryan undergoes emergency appendectomy

John Bryan, the newest member of The Grascals, had to undergo an emergency appendectomy last night at the hospital near his home in Boone, NC.

The band was performing Saturday night at the Mountaineer Opry House in Milton, WV and John reported feeling poorly during the show. Once they finished on stage, he got much worse and had considered going straight to the ER in Milton.

But he decided that he wanted to get home first, and went to the hospital in Boone when he got back to town. Doctors there scheduled him for surgery which was performed Monday night.

The surgery went well and John is now at home and resting.

The band has a nice break following a show on Thursday night in Raleigh, so he should be full strength for their New Year’s Eve performance at Nashville’s Station Inn.

Abdominal pain is something you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. Glad to hear that John is on the mend.
