Leaving On Her Mind video from Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver

Billy Blue Records has released a new single, with a lyric music video, from their current album for Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Live In Prague.

This one features the newest member of Quicksilver, Jerry Cole, who many bluegrass fans will remember from his three years on bass with Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out. Jerry made his bluegrass touring debut as a member of Cody Shuler & Pine Mountain Railroad, but has been singing all his life. His dad was a longtime member of The Betterway Quartet, so old time singing and Gospel music were a part of his life from the start.

From the earliest days of Quicksilver, Doyle has had a habit of finding the very best singers among the up-and-comers in bluegrass. The list is a long one, including such current pros as Lou Reid, Russell Moore, Steve Gulley, and Jaimie Dailey.

Sounds like Jerry is well on his way to that same status on this Charley Pride classic from the late ’60s, Leaving On Her Mind.

Leaving On Her Mind, and the entire Live In Prague album, is available wherever you stream or download music online, and on CD directly from Billy Blue or Doyle’s web site.

Jerry Cole to IIIrd Tyme Out

Russell Moore has announced that he has officially hired Jerry Cole as bassist with IIIrd Tyme Out.

Jerry has been touring with the band for several months now since the group’s previous bass player, Blake Johnson, has been on medical leave suffering with serious kidney problems. Initially, it had been hoped that Blake would be able to return to performing with IIIrd Tyme Out, but he requires regular kidney dialysis and can not safely travel. He is currently awaiting a kidney transplant.

So with the best interests of a full-time band to consider, Russell has had to pull the string, and hired Cole full time, a musician he speaks of quite highly.

“Jerry is a very talented musician and hard worker. His placement of notes on the bass and his strong vocals are a great match and blend to the band’s sound. We’re all very excited about his inclusion in the group and welcome him with open arms! Our thoughts and prayers are, of course, still with Blake Johnson. We ask that everyone continue prayers and good thoughts for Blake in hopes that his health will improve and the dialysis treatments will become a thing of the past.”

Bluegrass fans will recognize Cole from his six years with Pine Mountain Railroad.

He is understandably excited to officially join such a prestigious act.

“Everyone has something they hope to accomplish in their profession. Sharing the stage and singing with Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out just happens to be at the top of my list! I consider it an honor and a blessing to join a group of genuinely good people who share the same passion for quality music as I do.”

Russell and IIIrd Tyme Out are now touring in support of their new album, It’s About Tyme.

Debut single from Matt Wallace

Pinecastle has announced a March 11 release date for For A Season, a solo project from Knoxville bass player and vocalist, Matt Wallace. The album features Matt and a number of other very talented singers, including Paul Brewster, Jesse Gregory, Wayne Taylor and Jerry Cole.

Even as a relatively young artist, Wallace has an impressive resume. He had recently been working with Newton & Thomas, and did prior stints with Pine Mountain Railroad, Audie Blaylock, David Parmley, and Paul Williams. Going forward, Matt plans to do shows this year with both Terry Baucom and Audie Blaylock.

A debut single from For A Season is available now through Airplay Direct. It’s Old Man Winter, with Matt on lead vocals, written by his former PMR bandmate, Jerry Cole.

Assisting throughout are Darrell Webb on guitar, Alex Hibbitts on mandolin, Josh Hymer on banjo, Tim Crouch on fiddle and Jeff Partin on reso-guitar. Lead vocals are roughly split between Wallace and his several guest singers.

Audio samples from all the tracks can be found on Matt’s web site, where pre-orders for the album are being accepted now.
