Hillary Klug and Evan Winsor celebrate their 1st anniversary

In talking recently with buck dancing fiddler Hillary Klug about her upcoming album (more on that soon), it came up that people didn’t believe that she was married, as we hadn’t published anything about it at Bluegrass Today.

Well, she and bluegrass bassist/guitarist Evan Winsor were indeed married on March 11, 2023, but in a small, private ceremony with only family in attendance. They hadn’t wanted to publicize it much at the time, but as their first anniversary is today, we are happy to note that for the happy couple.

Hillary shared this brief report from one year ago…

“We got married last year on March 11 in Fairfield, CT, which is where Evan is from. We had a small ceremony with family.

We’re celebrating this year with a quick date night in between Evan’s busy travel and tour schedule with Josh Turner.

I’m busy getting ready to launch my Kickstarter to fund my new CD, set to be released later this fall, with five singles to be released this spring and summer.”

We’ll certainly be on the lookout for those singles, the first of which should be arriving later this month.

Klug says that she is showing off a new side of her musicianship by singing on the album as well as playing fiddle. She has become a social media sensation with her string of videos with her playing fiddle while demonstrating her championship buck dancing, a mountain step tradition a bit different from clogging.

More recently she has added several friends to these videos, some of which have received millions of views, with guests like Brenna McMillan, Mary Meyer, Emily Otteson, and Christina Vane among them.

You can watch many of these on her YouTube channel, and on her TikTok and Instagram pages.

Hillary also shared some photos from the wedding last year. It’s real folks – she and Evan are hitched!

Many congratulations to Hillary and Evan!

Evan Winsor to Josh Turner on bass

Yes… you’re right. We don’t typically report on personnel changes in the country music world.

But we are delighted to let everyone know that bluegrass bass player Evan Winsor has scored the gig with country star Josh Turner. Anyone who follows Josh knows that he has a bluegrass side. His first big hit with Long Black Train featured a grassy feel and some strong fiddle. In fact, founding Appalachian Road show fiddler Jim VanCleve toured with Turner for several years, and Paul Harrigill, late of Flatt Lonesome is currently in the band on banjo and guitar.

Evan has been working with several bluegrass acts in Nashville, including Donna Ulisse, Theo & Brenna, and Steve Thomas. He has also done studio or fill-in work with Doyle Lawson, Irene Kelley, and Ed Helms.

With Josh he will play both electric and upright bass, starting this Thursday at MerleFest. You will still see him on some shows with Donna Ulisse next month when his new schedule allows.

Congratulations and best of luck, Evan!

Hillary Klug fiddles, sings, and dances for Bluegrass Today

We had an unexpected treat today when Sammy Passamano with 615 Hideaway brought Hillary Klug down to the media room at World of Bluegrass to perform a mini showcase for us. Hillary played fiddle, sang, and accompanied herself buck dancing, supported by Cristina Vane on banjo and Evan Winsor on guitar.

Hillary has established a reputation as a bluegrass/old time entertainer through her viral videos on YouTube and Facebook, with some reaching more than four million views. She is a buck dancing champion, and combines the two skills in a pleasing and engaging fashion, earning her this substantial following. This tasty merging of techniques came about organically several years back when Klug was busking on the streets of Nashville. One chilly afternoon, with passersby passing her by, she added some footwork to help stay warm, and found that suddenly people were stopping to admire her performance. Ever since, she is known as the buck dancing fiddler with the long blonde hair.

Cristina is a noted performer on her own merit, working both in the old time and roots music world, and in classic rock and blues as well. Her debut project, Nowhere Sounds Lovely, is available online

Evan is not only an accomplished Nashville multi-instrumentalist, he is Hillary’s fiancé.

Here is their impromptu take on The Cuckoo.

They also recorded a video of Cristina singing Way Down The Old Plank Road.

Well done all – and thanks for stopping by!
