Lou Reid & Carolina go their own way

Lou Reid & Carolina have a new CD, Callin’ Me Back Home, ready to go, with a debut single just released via Airplay Direct.

The song is Carolina Moonshine Man, written by Reid, Ray Edwards and Terry Foust. Lou tells us that the song is based on Ray’s dad, who may or may not have run some shine back in the day.

It was tracked by his core band: Lou on mandolin and lead vocals, Christy Reid on bass and tenor vocals, Shannon Slaughter on guitar and baritone vocals, and Trevor Watson on banjo. Ron Stewart also guests on fiddle.

Other guests on the CD include Tony Rice, Neil Worf, Mike Auldridge, and Rob Ickes.

Callin’ Me Back Home represents a major departure for Carolina, in that it will be their first album released without a label partner. Lou had formed his own record company, KMA Records, and arranged for this new project to be distributed by Select-O-Hits, a Memphis company with more than 50 years’ experience with independent music.

Reid is comfortable with his decision to strike out on his own, with what they have produced, and with the team he has assembled to get the music out there.

“It will be everywhere bluegrass music is sold, and I strongly believe it is the best thing I have ever done.”

A precise release date hasn’t been set, but Lou says that Callin’ Me Back Home will hit sometime in mid-April.
