As a Canadian citizen, Chris’ medical expenses are covered by the British Columbia provincial heath system, but they did not pay the US hospital bill, and the vehicle he was traveling in was borrowed at the time. In short, the costs of his rehabilitative care are covered going forward, but he has substantial medical and legal expenses relating to the accident. On top of that, he is not able to work, either at his church where he served as an associate music director, or as a musician and music teacher due to his injuries.

Friends in his church and music families have been very generous, supporting Chris as best they can during his recovery, which is expected to take as much as a year. Now they have created a pledge page at the popular crowdsourcing site indiegogo to raise money to cover the replacement value of the wrecked vehicle, and Suen’s basic living expenses until he can return to work.
