Déboucher – Swing 42

Spanish quartet Swing 42 has released a new album that mixes the traditions of bluegrass and manouche, the gypsy jazz style originated and popularized by Django Reinhardt in the 1930s. With tongue in cheek, they describe this hybrid sound as Gypsygrass and Blueswing.

Déboucher features Lluís Gómez on banjo, Valentí Moya on manouche guitar, Oriol Gonzàlez on mandolin and Maribel Rivero on upright bass. Among the 11 tracks are their original compositions, and tunes from Bill Monroe (Jerusalem Ridge), Django Reinhardt (Swing 42), Scorpions (Still Loving You), and even the popular Mozart theme, Alla Turca.

The album title translates literally as “to uncork,” and Swing 42 has certainly opened up an interesting and expertly played vintage with Déboucher.
