Follow our Special Correspondent, John Goad, as he shops for necessary items to survive the Mayan Apocalypse.
Yesterday (12/15) he graduated from East Tennessee State University, along with four other students, with a bachelor’s degree in Bluegrass, Old Time & Country Music Studies. Goad graduated with a dual major, accepting a history degree as well.
Since Bluegrass Today launched in September of 2011, John has contributed album reviews, hilarious videos and, more recently, his Bluegrass Weather Reports.
But his time at ETSU is not over. Goad has been hired as a graduate assistant in the BGOTCMS program next year while he pursues a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies at ETSU, concentrating in history.
Also graduating yesterday with the BGOTCMS bachelors were Lindsey Michelle Clontz, Laura Jane Ford, Dan Troyer, and Ryan Baisden. Graduating with a bluegrass minor were Dwayne Anderson, Jamie Danielle Collins, Cody Weston Atkins and Kevin Zollinger.
Congratulations, one and all.
Here’s this week’s Bluegrass Weather Report, prepared for Christmas In The Smokies, going on now in Pigeon Forge, TN.
Here is the opening installment in what we hope will be a regular feature at Bluegrass Today, a weekend festival weather report with Special Bluegrass Correspondent, John Goad.
As often as time, resources and inclination allow, SBC Goad will report on likely weather and travel conditions for major bluegrass events throughout the year.
This initial episode serves as an introduction to the concept. More to come…
Our Special Bluegrass Correspondent, John Goad, has filed his first report from IBMA 2012.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKfQDOV3I0wTheir set started with a strong vocal performance from our own John Goad, a regular contributor to Bluegrass Today. John is a beloved figure within the ETSU community. So beloved, in fact, that students in the program are celebrating today (April 12) as the Second Annual John Goad Awareness Day on campus.
But Goad is more than just a pretty face and a soulful voice. He is pursuing a dual major at ETSU, and expects to graduate this year with credentials in both history and bluegrass music! His academic achievement and artistic talent have been recognized by the Leon Kiser Memorial Scholarship, which covered one full year of his tuition at the school.
Here’s the band, with John primarily on bass, Josh Argo and Cara Oliphant on fiddle, David Mowell on mandolin, Zach Carter on banjo, and Andy Buckner on guitar. Program director Dan Boner introduces the segment.
