While walking around the trade show floor at IBMA last week, I ran across Alan Munde and stopped to chat for a moment. Here’s the video. This one is short, runtime is 48 seconds.

IBMA: Kel Audio Interview
Here’s another video interview from IBMA. This time John interviews Kelly Dueck of Kel Audio. Kelly is a banjo player turned microphone manufacturer. His microphones are in use both on stage and in the studio throughout the bluegrass world.
I’ve got several Kel Audio microphones in my own studio and have used them on several projects now. These mics are affordable and clean sounding. Grasstowne is using them on stage, which Kelly discusses in the video.
The interview gives you some background on Kelly himself, a quick overview of his mics, and his perspective on being at IBMA for the first time as a vendor. Run time is 3:17.
IBMA: Chris Pandolfi Interview
Here’s another video from IBMA. In this clip, John interviews banjo player Chris Pandolfi of The Infamous Stringdusters.
Cherryholmes interview
On Wednesday of IBMA week, John and I took the camera and hit the trade show floor looking for some interesting interviews. The first one we’ve got to share with you is the Cherryholmes family.
The interview was timely as the band’s new CD, Cherryholmes III, was released on Tuesday.
The interview is spent discussing this new release and the band’s outlook for the coming year.
Dailey & Vincent on Broadway
Here’s the Dailey & Vincent video we’ve been promising. This was shot downtown Nashville on Broadway. You’ll see the location when you watch the video.
The video was shot the night before the Awards show. It includes some fun stuff, some interview with the boys, a message to their fans, and a live performance of Cumberland River.
Special Awards Luncheon
We’re here at the IBMA Special Awards Luncheon. I’ll try to keep up with the presentations. I’m already a bit behind as the event is currently underway.
The event began with IBMA president, Greg Cahill presenting plaques to the outgoing IBMA board members: Lee Michael Dempsey, Tim Stafford, Stephanie P. Ledgin, and Alan Munde.
Next up, came Richard Tucker to share news of the current state of The Bluegrass Foundation. Then Roger Siminoff took the stage to recognize the members of Leadership Bluegrass 2008.

Mike Bub has taken the stage to present the final Distinguished Achievement Award for the year. This one going to Alan Munde and Joe Carr. As an alumni of South Plains College, this presentation holds special meaning to me. These two men did so much to mentor me as I embarked on the first stages of my exploration of bluegrass music. Alan’s acceptance speach was typically witty and humourus while at the same time bringing tears of remembrance to my eyes.
Mr. Cahill is now back on stage wrapping things up for this luncheon. John and will be online throughout the day providing further updates from IBMA 2008.
Wednesday luncheon audience
As we were watching the Wednesday Showcase Luncheon today I noticed a number of bluegrass celebrities in the audience. I turned my camera from the stage to the assembled spectators.
I noticed our faithful blog photog correspondent, Tamy Roth, shooting some photos of the stage action. We’ll be seeing many of Tammy’s photos tomorrow during the flurry of activity surrounding the IBMA Awards Show.
I have no doubt their photos are much better than mine!
Roger Brown’s Keynote Condensed
Yesterday evening Roger Brown, President of the Berklee College of Music, gave a very timely and well thought out Keynote address to kick off the IBMA World of Bluegrass for 2008.
We caught up with Roger afterwards and he and John discussed the subject of his speech, with Roger serving up a condensed version of the speech for our interview.
The file is 12 minutes in length, but well worth the time it’ll take you to watch it.
Read our July 2008 interview with Roger, which he references in the video.
